Do you dream of managing your own hotel or resort someday?

Qualifications
Hotel managers have a combination of education and experience in the hospitality industry. They may begin earning experience waiting tables in a restaurant or working at a hotel reception desk before going to college. However, it is also possible to gain experience in the field after earning a related college degree.

The most common degrees are either a two-year Associate’s or four-year Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management. Many degree programs have opportunities for students to specialize in a specific area such as hotel administration. These programs will train students in general business skills such as finance, human resources, and management, but will also include industry-specific courses on hotel operations. Most programs also include a practicum requirement that allows students to gain experience in the field through an internship.

For those looking to earn a higher position in hotel management, there are also Master’s degrees available with some programs. It is important to note that admission to these programs usually requires a significant amount of experience in the field. Graduate courses in hotel management are often similar to those of a business management degree, with classes in business strategies and leadership.

After graduation, aspiring hotel managers may immediately find management positions in hotels, but they might also have to work as a manager of one area, like the front desk, and report to a general manager. Others may start in a branch of a hotel chain and work their way up to a branch in a larger city or even a corporate position.

Job Duties
Hotel managers have a wide variety of duties and skills. Many hotels have a fast-paced environment that includes interaction with guests, hotel staff, other managers, and corporate heads. They deal with all of the hotel’s daily operations, from hiring staff to making sure guests are happy. Since hotels are open all the time, hotel managers often work long hours with shifts on weekends on holidays. They must also be prepared to respond to emergency situations or guests’ needs at any time. In a large hotel, a hotel manager may be in charge of a specific department, such as housekeeping, food services, or sales. Large hotels also have general managers that oversee all departments and earn higher salaries.

The skills needed to be a hotel manager range from business skills to personal skills. They must be highly organized, good at management, cool-headed, skilled with finances, and have strong leadership skills. They must also work well with a variety of personalities and have a sophisticated understanding of various hotel operations. This variety of responsibilities can be stressful at times, but also highly rewarding. While the hotel manager is the main person responsible for any liabilities or financial difficulties, he/she also gets the most credit when the hotel is successful and guests are happy.

This article was written by Jenna Winkler, who has worked in hotel management for over 20 years. She also owns the site Hospitality Management Degree for students interested in getting a degree in hospitality management.

In the early part of the last decade, being a “website developer” was a lucrative career. In fact, there were very few people who have the technical know-how to help companies create the kind of website they need. These days though, being a “web developer” may seem in vogue but the massive influx of people who are entering the field means that it is no longer that easy to land a high-paying job in this industry.

Aside from the number of people entering the field, the fact is that the tools these days have become so sophisticated that it is possible for a relative new-comer to build a website from scratch with a website maker even if he has little or no technical abilities. With that being said though, becoming a website developer is still quite promising. If you’re good enough and creative enough, you can even come up with your own concept and launch it to the market. In this article, we’ll take a look at the different languages in this field. Read on to find out which one best suit your purpose:

There are two main types of website developers including:

• Client-side web developers – these are the people who write codes for the web browser. It includes CSS, HTML, and JavaScript. Most people can learn client-side languages within a matter of weeks.

• Server-side web developers – these types of developers create code for the server. It can be furthered narrowed down into various types including ASP.NET, ColdFusion, PHP, and multiple variants of Java EE.

If you have no exposure to the web development field at all, starting from HTML is recommended. It is very simple and provides the structure to the website’s pages. With some dedicated time for studying, you can be an expert in HTML after as early as two weeks.
HTML is the basic. After that, the next step is to learn CSS and JavaScript if you want to work with website owners. CSS controls the formatting and web display. For example, it shows which elements will be displayed on your site. On the other hand, JavaScript lets you create a more interactive web page. For example, you can place drop-down menus and move objects on the page through JavaScript. It takes 2-4 weeks to learn each of these languages separately.

If you want to become a server-side developer, these are various languages you can choose from. The easiest languages is said to be PHP and ColdFusion so these are good places to start. Unlike client-side developers though, it would take months to become proficient in these languages.

After you’ve mastered PHP and ColdFusion but are still looking for more challenges, you may want to consider ASP.NET and Java EE. These are difficult to learn but it can be a highly rewarding experience. The jobs in these fields tend to pay significantly higher. It is also important to keep up to date with new languages as they are introduced. This presents an opportunity for you to advance quickly in the field of web development and more knowledgeable to create a website.

It is a great way to earn an income and help others find a job at the same time. Depending on the amount of clients you have, writing resumes for others can be very lucrative. You can either set-up a website and establish your own name or you can become a professional writer for a recognized company.

For those who are just started out, it may be a good idea to apply to resume writing companies because it will give you exposure. You’ll learn to write the CVs of different kinds of clients, starting from the entry-level up to executive level. The company you write for may also give you exposure to different industries. This is beneficial if you intend to launch your own writing business later on. So you may be wondering, how can you become a professional resume writer? Read on to find out:

• Excellent Writing Ability – by this, we mean writing a resume with no typographical or grammatical errors. The seemingly little errors can lose a person his job. The writing should also be clear, crisp, and make sense. Avoid writing extremely long sentences unless it is called for.

• Professional Tone – it is important to come across as a professional in your writing. That is the main reason why job-seekers hire resume writer. Make sure that the tone of voice you use reflects positively on the applicant.

• English Speaking Fluency – if you’re writing for higher-level executives, it is sometimes necessary to talk to them over the phone to know about their specific tasks. Getting an in-depth understand of the role gives you an edge over other resume writers. It also ensures that you’ll get positive feedback and referrals from the satisfied client.

• Certification – for talented resume writers who know they’re good at what they do, getting a certification may seem like a hassle. But these certifications are needed to help clients make the right decision. Only people who have met their specific quality standards will have the certificate. It is a way to separate the bad writers from the good ones.

• Customer Service and Responsiveness – remember that in some cases, you’re working on a time-sensitive project. The resume must be submitted by your client before a deadline. They are understandably under pressure and you need to provide reassurance. This can come in the form of 24hr response guarantee.

Whether you intend to join a resume writing company or strike out on your own, the abilities we’ve listed above are critical for your success. Ensure that you meet these criteria and you can expect a long and fulfilling professional resume writing career ahead.

With the world dominated by computers and multi-billion dollar companies relying on these machines to keep productivity high, it’s fair to say that an IT technician is a job with prospects. When a computer breaks down in an office, panic ensues and a technician is called to ensure everything is repaired as soon as possible. An IT technician has an array of responsibilities and is expected to be an expert on a host of different computer types. If you’re looking to become an IT technician, know that some of your responsibilities will include repair, server, network and infrastructure.

College
Studying to become an IT technician is a serious undertaking with several years of hard college courses facing you. The qualifications needed vary depending on what country you are from but an American IT technician is expected to pursue a computer science bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. This means a 10+2 requirement must be fulfilled first. A bachelor’s degree may take four or so years and then you need to pursue a Master’s Degree course in computer science as well. This is necessary because of the intense competition you will be facing in the marketplace. There are an estimated 65,000 qualified IT technicians worldwide but consider how many people are applying for a single IT job.

Certification
With this level of competition firmly in mind, a Master’s Degree is usually not enough. You also have to gain certificates in order to gain specialized computer knowledge. A professional certification is a qualification that lets an employer know that the holder of this piece of paper is qualified for that particular aspect of a job. Certification gives you an edge over the competition and is worth its weight in gold. Below is a list of qualifications you need in order to become a successful IT technician:

Bachelor and Master of Science in Information Technology or computer science

Microsoft Certified Systems Engineering (MCSE) course qualification

A+ certification

Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTia A+)

A CompTia A+ certification shows that you have the ability to install, configure and diagnose as well as having knowledge of preventative maintenance. It also shows that the holder of the qualification has proficiency when it comes to safety and environmental issues.

Certain companies use particular technologies such as Microsoft, Apple, Cisco and Dell. Having an MCSE qualification ensures that you are qualified to work with Microsoft Server Systems and Windows platforms. It’s possible to gain equivalent certifications with the aforementioned companies such as Apple.

Other Skills
When applying to become an IT technician, remember that you must also show a high level of skill when it comes to written and verbal communication. You must have the ability to explain complicated computer issues to customers in simple, jargon-free language. Also, as the world of computer technology changes so fast, you must be 100% up to date with all these changes as they may greatly affect your work. Technology that was in fashion one year ago may be completely obsolete today.

Becoming an IT technician is a tough task but leads to a rewarding career. Talented technicians are headhunted the world over and can earn an extremely high salary. If you love computers, this may well be the career for you.

It is a very demanding job, and the satisfaction obtained from knowing that they can protect and safeguard public lives and property is immense. The job of a police officer provides a great deal of security on. Apart from this security, the job also provides good pay and excellent benefits. The job of a police officer is extremely prestigious and commands a great deal of respect. The basic essence of a police officer’s job relates to the protection of freedom as assured by the United States Constitution.

In order to become a police officer, a person is required to meet a number of requirements. Details regarding the recruitment may be obtained from the local newspapers or the particular department’s website. People requiring information on the same can also call up the department and talk to the recruiter about details regarding the eligibility requirements. The basic eligibility requirements focus on a person’s education, physical ability, and background.

Different agencies specify different requirements for eligibility regarding education. Some departments may only appoint people with a high school diploma or GED. Some agencies may also require a person to possess an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. Police departments in the U.S. encourage candidates to apply after obtaining a college degree, as it gives them a broader understanding of the issues faced in the country.

Physical requirements also vary from department to department. A test may be conducted to ascertain the applicant’s general fitness level. The basic aim of such a test is to determine whether or not the applicant is fit to take on the job. Finally, the last eligibility requirement deals with the background of the applicant. Police departments have a number of disqualifiers in relation to background checks. Issues such as felony conviction, heavy drug or alcohol use, or a poor credit report can disqualify a candidate. Since the job of a police officer is extremely demanding, ascertaining the candidate’s capability proves to be extremely important.

If you’re detail-oriented, are fascinated with airplanes, and are interested in a starting salary that can run close to $100,000, you might consider becoming an air traffic controller. The U.S. government plans to hire thousands of controllers in the years ahead, making it an especially promising field. Since most of the current controllers are expected to retire by 2011, there’s a real need for people who are willing to take up the air traffic control challenge. Also, because of the large number of airports around the country, if you live in a major metropolitan area, chances are there’s a need for controllers in your geographical region.

The primary responsibility of an air traffic controller is to coordinate the movement of airplanes to ensure that air traffic moves in an orderly fashion. As a result, it’s a position of tremendous responsibility, since a controller is called upon to make decisions that can literally save lives.

In order to qualify to become an air traffic controller, you need to have four years of college or three years of experience working full-time. If you have no experience in air traffic control, you’ll also need to complete a computerized eight-hour pre-employment exam.

Once hired, you’ll be attending a ten week training session, where you’ll have an opportunity to work on a simulator device which enables you to get a feel for what it’s really like to direct air traffic. After you complete that training, you’ll have to work and train for several more years before you will be considered fully qualified.

While the training process can be quite challenging, those who complete it say it’s well worth the effort. That’s because the work of an air traffic controller can be incredibly rewarding—not only financially, but also in terms of overall job satisfaction.

Becoming a bounty hunter shouldn’t be all that hard right? I mean I’ve boiled it down to 9 easy steps…

1. Find a quality bounty hunter school or training.

2. Get licensed, if required.

3. If you are unsure if licensing is required, look it up.

4. Get the essential gear and support systems in place.

5. Market your services.

6. If successful, find and arrest the fugitive, then take him to jail.

7. If successful, invoice and collect for services from client.

8. Repeat steps 6 through 8 as often as necessary.

9. Find more bounty hunter training and improve your skills. Again, repeat as often as necessary.

Actually, I wish it were that easy but it is not- though not impossible as many would have you imagine.

Since I don’t know anything about you or your experience, I am going to assume that you are starting from scratch… no experience with the bail bond industry, skip tracing, taking people into custody, or finding a bounty hunter job.

With that in mind I am going to give you the best advice you will get in our industry: Commit right now to becoming a lifelong student of the bail recovery tradecraft, which means finding a mentor, taking courses, reading books, research, and networking! This is not just for the short-term… but also for as long as you intend to find fugitives for business or for pleasure. I commit to at least 5 hours a week to learning more about some aspect of this business; improving my marketing skills, staying abreast of the changing climate of our industry, studying new methods of skip tracing, etc; each are extremely valuable topics to pursue.

Competency is developed from the study and practice of these skills. Competency leads to success!

But as I said in my last blog post about bounty hunting, finding the right school is of paramount importance. No other single decision made by someone wanting to learn to become a bounty hunter is so crucial!

And finding the right course can be tough! You have to consider a lot of options and weed through the rip-off courses (and there are more than a few) to find a truly great bail recovery course. Ask about the training director’s validity and/or background… if they get offended or defensive, that would be a good sign to stay away. Pick their brain a little- does what they have to say give you cause for concern or does something feel not quite right? Walk away if something is wrong.

Ultimately a variety of courses and/or books from a few reputable companies would be in your best interest- this is a complicated business and the “pros” all tend to approach the industry a little bit differently and none of us are able to cover everything 100%; it would not hurt to expose yourself to as much as you feel comfortable.

Lastly, I want to leave you with this- having dealt with thousands upon thousands of people asking the most frequent questions about getting started in bail enforcement I find that the one singular cause of frustration and eventual failure is that new people are too busy trying to reinvent the wheel rather than enlisting the help of an investigator who has been in the field a while or availing themselves of their training programs. Give yourself a fighting chance and start with Step #1 rather than halfway down the list. You’ll be glad you did. L. Scott Harrell is a private investigator and principal of CompassPoint Investigations, an investigative agency with offices in the Southeast United States. He is a noted speaker, writer and educator in the field of fugitive apprehension.

The best way to learn how to prepare food is to practice, hands on. After a student has completed their in-school training, they will move on to an apprenticeship, spending time in a kitchen doing the lower skilled kitchen duties. Culinary Students will need to learn under several different chefs to find what class of food they want to specialize in. In their classes, they should learn how to plan menus, determine serving and portion sizes, how to manage the cost of foods in quantity and reduction of food waste. Students must also learn restaurant sanitation and public health rules for proper handling of food.

The head chef directs the kitchen staff. Depending on the size of the kitchen, he may prepare meals or manage his own restaurant in addition. A beginning chef can expect to make it to head chef position in 10 years, provided they are able to withstand the high stress and pressure that comes with the job. Executive chefs often have restaurateur partners for financial reasons, but it’s good to take a few business courses if you intend to run your own restaurant.

Executive chefs often spend more time with patrons and investors than in the kitchen. There are many different job descriptions that must be filled in restaurant situations. When entering the chef industry, you may end up as one of many line cooks in a kitchen. The different positions you could be expected to fill include a pastry chef, in charge of pastries and desserts, the pantry chef, in charge of cold-prepared foods such as salads, dressings, buffet items and sandwiches. Roast cooks handle roasted meats and gravies, as well as broiled meats or other items to order. He may also handle fried meat and fish.

The vegetable cook prepares vegetables, soups, starches and eggs, while the fish cook handles dishes involving fish and seafood. The sauce chef may handle the fish as well as sauces in some kitchens, as well as stews, hot hors d’oeuvres and sauteeing. Other chefs you will need to be aware of include the Sous chef, or assistant to the executive chef. The person in this position is in charge of many of the organizational tasks involved in keeping a kitchen running smoothly. They keep records of purchases, needs and losses. They are often the organizers, making sure that food is crafted and sent out to the tables in a timely fashion so that all patrons get to eat at the same time.

The executive chef is in charge of everything that involves the kitchen, which includes the menu, personnel management and other business management aspects. There is also the Chef De Cuisine, who, depending on the kitchen, is sometimes in charge of the executive chef, sometimes equal to him, and sometimes directly under his authority, equivalent to a sous chef. Things to remember A few things to do to prepare yourself for entering the world of culinary excellence include taking a job in a restaurant, any job, even if it’s busing tables or washing dishes, just to give yourself experience and to help you get a feel for the physical needs of a career in the food industry. Holding a position in a restaurant will also give you a foot in the door. As you gain in experience and education, you can begin to work your way up the culinary ladder in a restaurant, starting with line chef, and working your way up to master chef. Remember to research the culinary schools in your area and abroad, select your school and pursue it. If you are in high school still, speak with your guidance councilor about schools and careers in the culinary profession.

If you are seriously committed to the idea of becoming a firefighter, we salute you. The job of being a firefighter is challenging, interesting, rewarding, and very well respected. In fact, there was a survey recently that showed firefighting as the most respected career in the US. Firefighting was even ahead of professions such as doctor and college professor.

But to become a firefighter, you must first understand that there is intense competition for every position that becomes available. For that matter, there are usually numerous candidates for every position – sometimes as many or as 10 or 15 people competing for the same opening.

This means it is critical for you to understand what it takes to win a firefighting position.

The process begins with knowing where to look for firefighting jobs. Obviously, the first place is your local newspaper and the best place to find firefighter positions in its Sunday edition. If you do not live in a major city with a newspaper that has a leading a Sunday edition, you might go to your local library on Monday and check for classified ads for firefighters in nearby large cities. For example, if you lived in Wray, Colorado, your best bet would be the Sunday edition of the Denver Post.

The next step

The next step in how to become a firefighter is to a get and fill out an application. You can usually get information about the exam and application process from your city’s department of personnel (or HR department) or from your local fire department. You might also be able obtain an application from your school guidance office or your local library.

To begin the application process you should locate the appropriate agencies and give them a call. When you call, be sure to have a pencil and paper ready to write down any instructions or directions you are given. You can explain that you need.

1. Information about the examination

2. The application itself

3. The correct procedure for filling out the application

The written exam

The next step towards winning that coveted badge will be a written examination. The typical written firefighter exam takes about 3 1/2 hours and may include 100 or more questions. The best way to prepare for a written exam is to get a book on firefighter exams. There are several available on web sites such as amazon.com and if you are willing to settle for a used copy, they are generally inexpensive.

Assuming you score high enough on the written exam to continue the process, you’ll next be required to take a physical test. These tests are designed to simulate actual firefighting duties, and include exercises such as hose drag, hose carry, ladder climbing, latter raise and victim removal. You will most likely be required to do these while wearing firefighter clothing and equipment, and to complete the tasks within a stated amount of time.

The physical and the psychological evaluation

The next step will be a physical examination, followed by a psychological evaluation. The work of a firefighter is often stressful and performed under harsh conditions. The purpose of the psychological evaluation is to make sure that you can function well under these conditions will and that you will work well with other members of your team.

This, in short, is how to become a firefighter. We congratulate you on your choice of careers and wish you well in your quest.

Douglas Hanna is the publisher of the popular web site, http://www.howtobecomeafirefighter101.com – a site full of useful information on becoming a firefighter, including the requirements, the application process and sample firefighter exam questions.

Hanna lives in a Denver suburb and is the author of more than 200 articles on a variety of subjects.
